Four members of the Carroll College baseball team have been named All-Midwest Conference, the league announced. Jimmy Marlin and Jason Infusino were first-team selections while Chris Elliott and George Simons earned second-team recognition.
Marlin scorched league pitching in 2008, batting a league-best .583 in 16 MWC north division games. In addition to leading the MWC in batting average, Marlin finished the season in the top five of seven other offensive categories, including slugging percentage (2nd/.917), on base percentage (1st/.634), runs scored (5th/21), hits (1st/35), runs batted in (4th/21), home runs (3rd/5) and total bases (2nd/55).
Marlin's overall batting average of .443 puts him at the top of the list amongst Carroll hitters with 80 or more at-bats since the 1993 season. He passed Nate Miller's mark of .438 from the 2001 season.
Infusino closed out one of the greatest careers in recent Carroll history. He batted .431 this season (third-best since the 1993 season) and ends his four-year career batting .342 (.290 as a junior, .304 as a sophomore, .342 as a freshman).
Infusino ranked in the top seven of three MWC categories, including stolen bases (T 1st/10), triples (T 2nd/2) and hitting (7th/.409). His 19 overall stolen bases is Carroll's best since 1993. He also led the 2008 Pioneers in hits (53), doubles (11), triples (6) and home runs (5, tied with Marlin).
Elliott put together a solid season at the plate and in the field. He batted .371 overall (.418 in the MWC/6th best) while finishing with a .984 fielding percentage (a perfect 1.000 in MWC play).
Simons batted .288 in MWC play (.256 overall). He laid down a league-best four sacrifice bunts and was hit by the second-most pitches (5).
