IM Policies
Purpose
The intramural program has been developed to enhance the quality of life for
students, faculty, and staff at Carroll College through participation in
wholesome and organized recreational sports. The intramural program will
provide facilities for scheduled activities, organize and promote competition
between groups and individuals on campus, will improve physical fitness
levels, and will foster a spirit of fair play and sportsmanship among
participants and spectators.
Eligibility for participation
Any student enrolled at Carroll college (1 credit or more during the current
semester, undergraduate, graduate, residential or commuter), any member of the
faculty (full-time, part-time, or adjunct), any administrator, or any member
of the staff (full-time or part-time) is eligible to participate in the
intramural program.
Individuals are only eligible to participate on one team in a given
tournament. However, an individual may participate on a men's or women's team
and a coed team in a given sport.
Exceptions:
Professional Ineligibility: Any student, faculty, or staff who has established
oneself as a professional athlete in any sport will be ineligible in that
sport or its related counterpart. The recreational director will make rulings
on all questionable cases.
Definition of Professionalism: A professional is any individual recognized by
organizations such as USLTA, USGA, NFL, major or minor baseball leagues, AAU,
or any other professional or semi-professional organization.
Intercollegiate Athletic Ineligibility: Any athlete in season is ineligible to
play in the intramural sport they compete in.
Academic Ineligibility: Any student who is on academic probation (carrying a
GPA of 2.0 or below on a 4.0 scale is ineligible to participate in the
intramural program.
Social Probation: Any student who is on social probation is ineligible to
participate in the intramural program during the period of probation. Any
player using an assumed name will be subject to discipline by the intramural
wellness director. This may include, but not be limited to , suspension from
participation in any additional intramural sports for the remainder of the
academic year.
Any questions pertaining to eligibility must be resolved prior to the start of
the tournament. It is the responsibility of the individual to determine
his/her eligibility.
Any team using a player who does not meet the eligibility rules will forfeit
all contest in which the ineligible player participated.
Prior to the start of any contest, each team must sign in declaring all
players on its team participating in the given contest or eligible.
Disciplinary Statement
In the event that in individual)s) and / or spectator(s) conducts him/herself
in an unsportspersonlike manner (inappropriate language, gestures, conduct,
etc.) during intramural competition, the official)s) of the game has complete
authority in taking action as is deemed necessary in order to maintain control
of the contest. Depending upon the severity of the conduct as determined by
the official(s), he/she has the prerogative to take the following actions:
give a verbal warning, issue a written warning, effect the individual from the
contest/area, and /or suspend the game. All incidents will be reported to the
Intramural Wellness Director for further action.
The severity of the incident as determined by the Intramural Wellness
Director, will determine the sanctions implemented against the individual in
question. The sanction may vary from a verbal warning to suspension from
further participation in intramural contest at Carroll College.
- Verbal Abuse:
Verbal abuse of intramural officials, participants, or spectators will
not be tolerated. The first incidence will result in a written warning and
suspension form the contest. The second incident will cause suspensions from
the tournament. The third incidence will result in suspension from the
remainder of the intramural season during the given academic year.
- Physical Abuse:
Physical abuse of intramural officials, participants, or spectators will
not be tolerated. The first incidence will result in a written warning and
suspension form the contest. The second incident will result in suspension
from the tournament. The third incident will result in suspension form the
remainder of the season.
Failure of a participant to sign in prior to the start of the contest may
result in forfeiture. If an individual competes for a team that is not listed
on the roster submitted with the entry form, forfeiture of the contest will
occur, and the team may faced elimination from the tournament.
The team which is present must have a full compliment of players. If the team
that does show up for the contest leaves prior to the official declaration of
a forfeit, both teams will be charged with forfeit.
Forfeits
All contest will be played on the date and hour they are scheduled. A team not
ready to play within a period of 5 minutes after the scheduled time are
subject to the discretion of the officials, supervisor, and /or intramural
staff. Teams failing to appear in a timely manner will be charged with a
forfeit, and lose their entry deposit.
Prior to the start of each contest, all members participating on each team
must sign in on the score card for purposes of eligibility. Failure of a
participant to sign in prior to the start of the contest may result in
forfeiture. If an individual competes for a team that is not listed on the
roster submitted with the entry form, forfeiture of the contest will occur,
and the team may faced elimination from the tournament.

a forfeit, both teams will be charged with forfeit.
In the event that one team is short the required number of players, the
captain of the teem with a full compliment of players may agree to play the
contest.
Two forfeits may result in the team or individual from being dropped form
further intramural competition during the intramural year.
If condition beyond the control of the Intramural staff resulting the stoppage
or postponement of a contest, the contest will be rescheduled if at all
possible. The presence of an electrical storm I the vicinity during an outdoor
contest will automatically result in postponement/cancellation. Other
conditions warranting the postponement/cancellation of a contest will be left
to the discretion of the supervisor, official(s), or Intramural Wellness
Director.
Injuries
Each participant in the intramural program participates at his/her own risk
and is encouraged to provide their own insurance. The intramural program has
no insurance program for its participants. All injuries sustained during an
intramural contest must be reported to the Intramural Supervisor on duty.
All injuries must be treated according to emergency medical procedures as
established I the Student Employee Handbook.
Neither Carroll College nor the intramural program can assume legal or
financial obligation for its participants, as participation in the intramural
program is strictly voluntary.
